Hi, I figure since my new book is coming out very soon, that I should start the shameless self promotion! 🙂 Why buy a web design book? So why should you get the book, when you have this great website (and others,) that you can learn from? Comes down to a few things: The book …

The following is an excerpt from my new beginners web design book – Web Design Start Here!
From Chapter 1, Getting Started in Web Design:
What is the best computer for web design?
First of all, you can use any old crappy computer and it will be more than powerful enough to start building amazing websites. If you think about it, web design is largely about writing code—this is just text and even your old iPhone can write lots of text!
… I am not saying you should be building websites on your iPhone (but you know what, that might be coming in the next couple of years).

In my new Web Foundations course, I answer seven (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 … and 7!) big-picture questions so that you will have a clear view of the landscape around web design.
With these concepts understood, learning web design and development will be much easier –

There are so many websites these days that say they can teach you web design … and so many people just end up confused and frustrated, thinking web design is just too complex. If you’ve experienced this, let me confirm that it’s NOT you … it’s them!
Fact: Just about all the web design and development courses that you find on the Web, are created by nerds who have no teaching skill or experience.
As someone who comes from a family of teachers, and who has been teaching web design and programming since 2003, it disturbing to see this grab for money from hedge-fund backed nerds who have no business teaching.
If you’re looking for easy to follow courses, where you can actually contact the TEACHER if you have a question, then I invite you to check out my web design training site: webmentor.org.
If you are not sure to where to start, start with my new Web Foundations course, it’s designed to literally give you the foundations you need to learn web design … and in non-nerd English!
Or you can just browse my collection of beginners courses.
You can try for a 7 day free trial and if you decide to stick around, it’s only $9.99 /month … that’s buying me two coffee’s a month!
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

I just wanted to announce that my new web design book is now on Amazon for preorder.
“Build Your Website: Start Here” is loosely based on the tutorial on how-to-build-websites, but greatly expanded and updated for 2015.
To give you an idea, how-to-build-websites.com’s tutorial is about 100 pages of material, whereas my new book is 224 pages.

Hi, I’ve been teaching web design and development since 2003, and I’ve seen all the trends over the years. The current trend in online education, is to flood people with thousands of videos, and claim that’s a great thing! Thousands of videos on Netflix makes sense, but when it comes to learning web design and …
